How Can a Lump In The Armpit Be Treated?

Hi. I just had an ultrasound and mammogram for a suspicious lump near my armpit. Thankfully it turned out to be non cancerous and my dr wants to see me in about 2 months for a follow up. My question is, what can cause this and should I be concerned it can turn to cancer. And is there anything I can do to try to help this to get better? I m only 41 also. Thank you, Lisa

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

A non-cancerous lump in arm pot is most of the times enlarged lymph node, which mostly is due to an infection in the upper extremity, breast or back on the same side. It can follow repeated hair root infection after shaving hairs on axilla.

Please spot such an infective focus and get it treated. If it does not respond, usually such gland is removed surgically and sent for histopathology for a confirmed diagnosis. Please consult a general surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
